Warranty & Natural Timber

Our workmanship promise, what to expect from natural timber, and how we help when something is not right.

Carefully selected, naturally individual.

Our furniture is designed to celebrate the natural character of timber. We select materials using our industry knowledge, considering the species, durability class, treatment, structural grade where applicable, and the intended home, garden or commercial setting. Our aim is sound construction and a material choice suited to your requirements.

Durability classifications describe timber performance under specified conditions. They are not a promise of a fixed service life for every finished item. Climate, moisture, sunlight, ground contact, exposure, use and maintenance all influence how furniture performs. We explain the benefits and limitations of each option so you can make an informed choice.

Our two-year workmanship promise.

TK Outdoor Furniture offers a 2-year warranty against defects in our workmanship for catalogue products supplied with our published options, starting on the date your furniture is delivered. This covers faults caused by our construction or assembly, including defective joinery or incorrectly fitted fixings. It applies to our catalogue furniture supplied for home, garden and commercial use. Work outside our catalogue products and published options is addressed separately in the custom-work section below.

If an assessment confirms a workmanship defect covered by this warranty, we will arrange repair or replacement of the affected component or item, as appropriate.

Our warranty includes the guarantees required by Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. These rights can continue beyond two years, depending on the product and circumstances. Made-to-order furniture is not exempt, and eligible business purchases may also be protected. Nothing in this warranty, our timber guides or our terms excludes, restricts or modifies rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Once your furniture is complete, we provide photographs of your build before final payment is due. These record its individual appearance at completion and give you an opportunity to discuss concerns. Receiving photographs or making final payment does not waive your rights.

Consumer guarantees and warranties (ACCC)

Custom work. Clearly agreed expectations.

Custom work means designs, dimensions, construction methods, materials, coatings or other alterations outside our catalogue products and published options. This includes work requested through architects, designers, builders or tender specifications. Our standard additional 2-year workmanship warranty does not automatically apply to this work.

Client drawings and tender documents may specify details that cannot be achieved reliably with the available timber, its natural movement or suitable construction methods. A request for a price is not confirmation that a design is feasible or that a material or finish is suitable. Any price supplied for an unassessed proposal should be identified as indicative and subject to technical review. Before accepting an order, we need to agree the achievable specifications, any departures from the drawings, the intended use and any known limitations in writing.

Non-standard finishes require particular care. For example, a customer-requested white coating or epoxy resin may be affected by timber tannins, moisture or movement, and we may not have tested that system on our furniture. We will explain known risks and any uncertainty before agreement. We do not promise an untested finish's performance unless expressly agreed. A customer's instruction to proceed, or a warning about a risk, does not by itself remove our legal obligations or automatically exclude a claim.

TK Outdoor Furniture decides before the order is agreed whether to offer an additional 2-year workmanship warranty for custom work. Any approved cover must be expressly stated in the accepted quotation or invoice, identifying the work covered, the period from delivery and any lawful limits. If neither document expressly grants that cover, this additional workmanship warranty is not offered for the custom job. Silence in a later invoice does not cancel cover already promised in an accepted quotation, and we cannot withdraw agreed cover at our discretion after purchase.

This concerns our voluntary additional warranty only. Custom-made goods and services may still carry Australian Consumer Law guarantees, including acceptable quality, fitness for a disclosed purpose and due care and skill where applicable. Those rights and remedies do not depend on a warranty statement appearing on a quotation or invoice. Other binding promises also remain effective. We assess each concern against the agreed specifications, the advice given, its cause and effect, and applicable law. Neither client-supplied plans nor non-standard work is a blanket exclusion of defects, structural concerns or consumer rights.

What natural timber can do over time.

Grain variation, sound knots, live edges and differences in colour and texture are features of our natural design approach. Over time, timber may change colour, develop a silver-grey patina, release tannins, shrink, swell, bow, cup, twist or develop seasoning checks as it responds to its environment. The extent varies between species, individual boards and exposure conditions.

Expected natural variation or weathering, without a defect in workmanship, is not covered by our additional workmanship warranty. We do not offer a separate promise that timber will retain its original colour, shape or appearance, or last for a specified number of years.

This is not a blanket exclusion of timber or structural claims. A characteristic described in a guide or glossary does not automatically make a concern acceptable. We assess its cause, extent, effect on safety and function, the agreed specifications, the information supplied at purchase and any applicable consumer guarantees. If timber movement, cracking, decay or another issue affects safety or use, please contact us rather than assuming it is normal. Stop using the affected furniture if you believe it may be unsafe.

Care suited to your timber and setting.

Our owner's guides explain timber selection, natural behaviour, finishes, cleaning and ongoing care. They help you understand what to expect and choose maintenance suited to your timber, exposure and desired appearance. Advice is general unless we provide instructions specific to your order.

Damage caused by misuse, impact, unauthorised alterations or unsuitable care is not a defect in our workmanship. We consider whether these factors actually caused the issue; we do not reject every claim simply because maintenance was missed. These limits apply only to our additional workmanship warranty and do not remove any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded. The guides are information, not a waiver of rights.

Tell us what you are seeing.

Contact us using the details below with your order or invoice reference (or other reasonable proof of purchase), a description of the concern, and photographs if you can safely provide them. Let us know when you first noticed the issue, how the furniture is used and where it is located. We may ask for further information or arrange an inspection to assess the cause and a suitable remedy.

Please contact us promptly when you notice a problem, especially a safety concern. There is no seven-day cut-off for exercising your consumer rights. For our additional workmanship warranty, notify us of a workmanship defect within the two-year period from delivery. Claims under Australian Consumer Law are assessed separately and are not limited to that period. Please speak with us before arranging return freight or third-party repairs; this request does not limit your statutory rights.

Assessment, repairs and transport costs.

If an assessment confirms a defect covered by our additional workmanship warranty, or a failure of a consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law, we cover the reasonable costs of putting it right. This includes the assessment, the repair or replacement, and the reasonable cost of transporting the furniture between your location and our workshop, including return delivery to you. Because our furniture is large and heavy, we will usually arrange transport ourselves or agree the arrangements with you before anything is moved.

You will never be asked to pay for the assessment or repair of a confirmed defect, or for transport costs that the law requires us to cover. Where a concern turns out to be expected natural timber behaviour rather than a defect, we will explain our assessment and discuss any options with you before any cost is incurred.

Insured for your peace of mind.

TK Outdoor Furniture holds public liability insurance and product liability insurance, each with cover of $20 million. This sits alongside our workmanship warranty and your Australian Consumer Law rights, and reflects our commitment to standing behind every piece we make, in homes, gardens and public and commercial spaces across Australia.
